Introduction to the IKGH World of Show Guppies.
Age 12 years old. Walking by the local pet store on my way home from school. The proprietor attempting to wire electrical equipment old type separate heaters and thermostats.
I noticed he was about to make a wiring error, fortunately, the same day that I had a lesson on electricity supply in the school.
Explaining to the pet store owner that his methods would cause him a problem when he turns on the supply, he then asked me to do the wiring for him. Health and safety laws were not his strongest point after setting up to my surprise all the electrical equipment worked perfectly.
He immediately offered a Saturday job and I accepted. It was not long after this that the Aquarist bug took, hold and by the time I was 15 years old. I was trying to line breed Guppies from the USA. Sent to me in the post in 1970 after contacting a US breeder.
Unfortunately, there was very little interest in my local area in the ‘70s. A friend and FBAS judge the late Mr Leo Collins mentored me for a short while until I experienced some problems Leo was unable to answer and at this point, my mind drifted into other areas of fish keeping.
I always had it in the back of my mind that one day. I would again attempt to breed Show quality Guppies.
Browsing the Internet I discovered the IKGH Organization. It was at this point my childhood interest was again ignited. www.ikgh.org
